Thing #14

I like Bing!! I'm not sure exactly why I like it better. It seems more user friendly. I have changed the Google search bar on my desktop to Bing!

Thing #13 continued

I love Jing!! It was quite simple and fun to use! My problem came when I tried to embed it into my blog. The problem was that the size was too big and took up my WHOLE blog. I did figure out how to resize it, but then you lose the clarity and can't see some things. I think there is a way to play with the size when you are recording...but I'm not sure. I also had some problems with the recording. You have to turn the volume up really high and then listen closely because it's still not very loud. I think it would be better if I had a USB microphone... I would love to put this wordle assignment on my school web page so students and parents could do this assignment at home.

Thing #12 Books 2.0

There was A LOT to look at in this thing!! I enjoyed exploring!

I set up an account with Shelfari and think it's pretty cool. I would love to have this as my background for my computer so when I project onto the SmartBoard (or my new white board)a shelf for my class and the books students are currently reading would be the display. I think it would be a great way to let others know what they are reading.

I also added What I Should Read Next and Book Seer to my favorites. I think these will be a great tools to help recommend books to students.

I did read the articles that Sharleen posted and they were good food for thought. I thought of Logan because I am always trying to get him just the right book...which has NEVER happened! He always argues that he reads online and he's right...he does. It may not be the same as reading a book...but if it wasn't for the internet he would NOT be reading at all. I think we do need to just think of the internet as just another tool in our toolbox!

Thing #11 Google Maps

Well, I have had a little trouble with Google Maps. We have a literature unit called Community Ties. One year we got on a bus and toured Owatonna, stopping and taking pictures of different spots and then creating a slideshow of our community. I think we could do something similar on Google Maps. I did creat a map and marked several favorite Owatonna spots. I know we could then add pictures and write about each spot...but I had trouble with this. As you can see in my previous post I also had trouble just embedding it into my post. I did get it in, but every time I tried to compose something my computer just shut down. I even tried on another computer and it shut down. So, it doesn't like something I did. This site has some really cool features and again the the possibilities are endless, but I need HELP and TIME!!
